ok this blog has been abandon for a year, i've decided to revive it. after all, it's still my blog. many stuff have been going on in my life in year 2007. from saddness to numbness and then to the feeling of getting use to the meaning of life. shan't say much bout it. i rather it be the past and even a nightmare that i've just waken up from. Buddies, u shld know why my year 2007 started badly.
i've been working temporary at seven eleven below my house for the past few weeks. the main reason for working there is that i got really fed up for not being able to find a job during the dec holidays that i just ran down to do part time. the job there was fun and also stressful. my colleages are easy to get along with except for my supervisor. they guided me along, tried to fixed things right after i screwed up my work and even comforted me when i was feeling down. working with them was really fun if not for that pms supervisor. Sha, Jamilah, Yanny, Yanty, Amos, Cheryl and Sam, you people really brighten up my life in seven eleven!
Sha- thanks for the heart to heart talk, but please stop scaring me by shouting into my ears! And, stop smoking soon kiez? it's really bad for ur health, i dun want u to regret in future. i have my grandfather and granduncle who died from lung cancer and i dun wish for pple whom i loved and cherish to follow their foot steps.
Jamilah- thanks for guiding me for my first week. u were a really great teacher and trust me, i'm quitting not because that u are a bad teacher, but because i'm really a lousy student. i mean i must be the first student u ever had that have twenty plus dollar shortages in my counter within a week! i think my wages are already gone if i continue working. i do hope u can find the job that u want after u finish ur studies at ur school.
Yanny and Yanty- you two really look alike!! ok, i'm being stupid. you two are twins, of course, you two look alike. i really cant tell the difference if not for ur hair. yanty (the older twin by ten mins) highlighted her hair while yanny have black hair. working with both of u were were fun especially when we have the time to crap during our working time. i love to set riddles and see the both of u crack ur brains over it. haha. we all have a good laugh after every joke and any funny customer that comes in. i remember the most funny one was when the three of us were working when a cute little girl came in and stare at the two of u and exclaimed, ''why is there two of u?'' i replied why cant there ve two of them? that girl said, ''cannot have two!'' haha! the whole 7-11 was laughing la!!
Amos- though we were never in the same shift, we will meet each often when we change from the swing shift to the sunrise shift. as a matter of fact, we didnt really talk to each other during the changing shift coz i will be pulling my hair over the accounts (after my shift) while u will be around stocking up goods. haha.. i do have one thing to say to u- u look like u seriously need a lot of proper and normal sleep!! ur eye bags are pooping out like tea bags!! haha.. i know i'm pot calling the kettle black.. but at least i sleep at a more normal sleeping hours than u (this guy here sleeps in the day if he's working during the sunrise shift)!! haha..
Sam- thanks a lot for helping me to clear up my mess after i screwed up with my accounts. i'm totally clueless at checking them esp since i have to do both counters' accounts. that supervisor was so fierce and he expect me to get help from him? fat chance! if i were to really ask him, he will be slamming the calculator, counter, pens, pencils and the table telling me "how come so simple u dunno how to do?" so, sam thanks a lot for comforting me when i break down during that horrendous period of doing my acounts.
Cheryl- haha.. thanks a lot for ur motherly care. though like amos we were never in the same shift, to be able to see and u and then hear your comical voice after my shift makes me feel energetic again even though it's already 11 plus pm!! haha.. dun worry, though i will be quitting soon, we will keep in touch! at most i'll go down to the seven-eleven store at mid-nite to talk to u and sam!! haha..
while i was working there, i met a lot of customers with a lot of different attitudes. some were impatient, while others were friendly and will often chat with you as u find the customer's change. of course, there were some incidents that happen during my shift. on my first day there, there was a group of teen boys who took two packets of nachos but pay for only one packet of nachos. eventually they were caught by my supervisor. they denied at first, but after a while they walked in to confess after repeatedly walking in and out of the store. then there's one woman who keep coming into the store (during the period when there's no customer) to change her coins into $1 coin. i mean not that i dun wan to help her, but we are not supposed to open the counter unnecessarily unless when there are customers buying things. with that kind of timing she choose, how am i suppose to find the coin for her? to make things worse, she's doing it very often and it irritate me a lot especially when my stupid supervisor stand beside me and tell me to settle that woman myself. then there's a malay man who will come to the store every day to buy two cans of baron (tall ones) but leave one of the cans in the fridge to chill. he will then come back at a later time to collect the can. most of the time he will buy up to 6 tall cans of beer and his fav ones is Baron (one for $5.30 but two for $9.50.. haha.. see, even now i can remember the price of the cans of beer). as the store sell beer and volka, there will definitely be incidents when drunkards will come into the store to buy beer or volka (ard 8-10pm) esp during the festive seasons like christmas eve and new year eve (the drunkards i've met so far are always the same two guys, to make things worse, they are friends that come tgt often). during one of the festive seasons, these two guys (one caucasion and one indian) came into the store to buy four tall cans of Carlsberg and Baron. they were already rody when they came in and i could smell alcohol in their breath even when i'm standing behind the counter. then after a few minutes, the caucasion came in again, this time to buy one small bottle of absolute mandrine (a type of volka, i guess) tgt with a few more other tall cans of beer. then after a while, he came back repeatedly to buy more bottles of absolute mandrin (about 6 in all i think, coz i rmb all that bottles of volka were sold out and it has to be replenished by me). as the time come close to ten plus pm, i bent down to count the packets of cigar behind the counter as i need to prepare to close my counter at 10.30pm (my back was facing the counter and i could not see who was at the counter). suddenly,i felt some one pull my hair from behind. initially i tot it was my other colleage who was being playful, but when i turn ard, i saw the indian drunkard. i shouted quite loudly that my colleages came running out. that's was total freaky la.. i felt really afraid when i saw that drunkard. if it was other customer who mistaken me for another colleage, i may not be that scared. but when i saw him and knew that he was drunk, i was really afraid he will reach his hands over the counter to do something to me. during another shift, i was working as usual and that indian drunkard came again, this time round, he tried to shake hands with my other colleage. my colleage, knowing that he was drunk, refused to shake hands with him and when he came closer, she shouted loudly, thank goodness the store was filled with a lot of customers at that time, otherwise ireally dunno what will happen to all of us (during that shift there were only four girls btw)
hmm.. though i'e only work there for a few weeks, i have seen a lot and hear a lot. one of the most common one is "wah! the price of the bread increase by a few cents already? so fast?!" true, the inflation rate in singpore has once again peaked over the past few years, this has indeed made many people suffer esp the middle-income group. sooner or later, the problem of widening income gap will worsen and lead to dire consequences on our social welfare.
my last day in seven eleven is this friday. i think i will miss every one except my supervisor. coz working with them has been fun and exciting.. haha..though i may not be working there any more, i hope they will remember me as a cheerful plus noisy girl with no worries.. not as a girl who frowns and ponder over her personal problems every day..
